The Board of Health serves as appointed by the Mayor. The board is made up of a chairperson, a secretary and four other committee members. The Board of Health's purpose is to insure the public health and safety of the citizens of the City through the enforcement of the Sanitary Code. 

Through the encouragement of the Mayor and City Council, the Board of Health and the Health Code Enforcement Officer assumed the enforcement of the Housing Code several years ago. This prudent decision has helped improve the quality of life for New Castle's residents.
